Beyond The Basics

S1 E12 - Capturing Your Niche In a Saturated Industry with SoCal Photographer, Joanne Distaso

Season 1 Episode 12

I think it's fair to say everyone knows at least one photographer or has worked with one before - Yes? Photography has been known for being a saturated industry, but in this episode, Joanne Distaso is telling us about how she niched and found a unique opportunity working with kids to photograph their milestone years.

Jo has been in the photography business for the last 16 years doing everything from self portraits to large weddings, but if there's anything she's learned and ready to give advice on - it's finding your specialty. Growing up in the same town she now owns her business, she discusses the challenges she's faced starting from scratch after leaving what she thought was her dream job in pharmaceutical sales, how she strategically plans out her business year-to-year, and the way's which she's learned to set boundaries along the way.

With a mission to meet cool people, take cool photos, and make people happy, Jo has embodied what it means to make someone feel confident in front of the camera and authentically represent themselves.
